Creating engaging spaces
Initial ideas for our unconference topic. This is how it all started. An academic research group was wondering about: How virtual spaces, designs, settings and structures enable us to innovate together? When is it that we are "engaged", "on task", and "at our best" in the virtual worlds, networks and in the physical world? What needs to happen that we can be creative and how do the Web 2.0 tools help us to be collaboratively innovative? How are virtual spaces architecturally set up so that creativity can be maximized? What advantages does virtual space give us in contrast to physical space? How could one create virtual creativity flows? The group decided that they would ask the professionals - that is you! Tila-Engagement group's specific academic focus. The research group aims to understand ‘spatial materiality’ from a management and organization perspective: Do space and place matter in organizing work, and if so, how? The focus is on places and spaces (be they proximate, distant, or virtual) with particular view to innovation and creativity, and engagement. The spatial interest extends beyond local and global organizational arrangements, to include the influence of wider spaces, such as the city and virtual worlds.
